Master Ross Briggs began his martial training at the age of nine, studying Judo and later JuJitsu at the local YMCA in Reno, Nevada.  In 1970 he started Tae Kwon Do training under his older brother Tom Briggs, a Reno Police officer who had studied in Korea.

In 1971, Master Briggs met and began expanding his martial arts knowledge by training with Sensei (now Grandmaster) Alexander Archie, along with a fellow student (now Soke) Dave McNeill, who eventually went on to found Goju Shorei Weapons Systems.  This collaboration continues to this day.

Master Briggs continued to serve as Grandmaster Archie’s assistant instructor for both Judo/JuJitsu and Karate classes at several locations in the Reno/Sparks area throughout the mid-1970’s.  In 1977 Master Briggs joined the U.S. Army, and served as a Military Policeman with the 82nd Airborne Division, where he created and taught a Defensive Tactics Training Program for his fellow military police personnel.

Master Briggs has been graded Godan (5th Dan) in Goju Shorei Karate, Sandan (3rd Dan) in AJI JuJitsu under Grandmaster Archie, Pu Sa Bum Nim (3rd Dan) in Tae Kwon Do under master Byong Yu.  He is also a Director with the American Teachers Association of Martial Arts (ATAMA).  Since 1980, Master Briggs has assisted Grandmaster Archie with classes to numerous law enforcement agencies throughout the Northern Nevada area.

In 2002 Master Briggs built and began teaching from his home-dojo in Sparks, Nevada, where he specializes in defensive tactics for law enforcement personnel and security professionals.  He is married, with four children and several grandchildren.   In 2007 Master Briggs was appointed Director of the open-hand system of Goju-Shorei by Soke McNeill.

Professionally Master Briggs has been an executive in the Gaming industry for over a quarter of a century, specializing in surveillance operations, games protection, security, and risk management.  Since 1996 he has been Director of Surveillance at Boomtown Hotel & Casino, Reno, Nevada.
