The DVDs of each rank plus the supporting printed material of the ranking curriculum offers an opportunity for anyone with a DVD player to learn effective empty-hand self-defense. All Karate testing products and testing will go through Master Larry Kooyman: larry@familyfirstma.com


The process is simple.

 

     1. Buy the DVDs and the text - One or all.
     2. Study the material.
     3. Video yourself doing the requirements.
     4. Send it in (see Contact Us) or post the video on Youtube.
     5. If the test needs to be retaken there is no extra charge.


FAQs

 

How long does it take to earn a Black Rank?  It's depends on the student. 3 years should be considered the minimum time to achieve a Black Belt in Goju-Shorei Karate.

 

How hard is it to learn the curriculum?  The higher you go the harder it gets. While the minimum age is 16, people of all genders, ages have achieved high ranking in the Goju-Shorei Karate.

 

What katas or forms does Goju-Shorei Karate teach?  The Heian katas are the most common ones taught, but if a student already knows other katas they would be accepted.

 

Why is there no curriculum beyond 1st Black Belt?  After the 1st Black Belt (Shodan) is achieved the rest of the ranks testing will be tailored to the individual and will include such things as community projects and learning other martial arts system.

Will I need a partner to learn the Goju-Shorei Karate?  Yes. While the katas or forms are done alone, the techniques must be performed with a partner.
